Hi, all! Wasn't sure if this belonged here or in WAMC so here goes nothing...

I am a re-applicant to MD schools (improved MCAT) but a first-time applicant to DO schools. I have already applied to MD schools early this cycle and meant to apply to DO schools at the same time, but for a multitiude of reasons the DO application got pushed back a couple of months. I'm waiting on my transcripts to come in and I have to trim some more characters off of my personal statement, then I'll be ready to...

I did undergrad 3 yrs ago @ a top engineering school(think MIT/Caltech). Had some good semesters, but attempted a ChemE major, went through some personal stuff, and bombed hardcore. Changed majors, graduated BS in Bio w/ cGPA 2.5, sGPA 2.9... I know its ugly.

Post UG so far - soul-searched, worked w/genomic medicine start-up for a year - led clinical product development, started my MS in Bioinformatics at a good private university (grad GPA 3.9), tons of research experience, few...

Hi,

I'm a senior who originally planned to graduate next semester, but I'm now feeling quite lost. I knew I didn't do as well as I needed to in my science classes, and I have dreaded the moment it would haunt me, and now that moment has come. I calculated my sGPA and it's right around a 3.0-3.1.

My overall GPA is 3.5 and I'm an honors student, medical scribe, and regular volunteer. I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but I plan to this coming summer and I really am shooting for above a 510. I...

I am applying this cycle DO schools only--just got verified. 3.5 cgpa/sgpa/ 501 MCAT/ URM cali resident..would like to stay in cali but dont think its possible because of my MCAT? Non-trad student. I have tons of work experience, shadowing, tons of ec's and leadership, DO letter, etc. My MCAT I think is what is holding me back from an acceptance this cycle. Where do you think I should apply?? What are my chances of applying ED to Baylor College of Medicine as an OOS applicant (from New York - public college) and is it actually worth pushing my other applications for this one school? I mean my numbers are competitive, but is it worth the risk? I'm also looking at UPenn and Hopkins so would applying just regular early be better than ED at Baylor?

Both my science and cumulative GPA are sitting around a 3.3, just graduated

In college I went through some family issues, so these numbers above are not as high as I would have liked them to be.

I decided to give my dream one last push and managed to score a 522 on my MCAT, a 99th percentile score according to my score report, with a breakdown that makes the result look even better:

chem/phys (132/132)
verbal (130/132)

I am being forced by my parents to apply to medical school this year. The problem is, I was planning all along to take a gap year to improve my resume.

No matter how much I tried to tell them about the good SMP programs can do, how bad Caribbean schools are, and how I'm not the strongest applicant I can be right now, they don't want me to "waste" another year.

I have a 3.1 overall GPA, and a 2.9 science which is not great. My MCAT was subpar, 498. I probably wouldn't accept someone like me...

Apply this year or be a reapplicant?

Hi all, I am a junior at a certain liberal arts school in the northeast that you might guess by my username. By the end of this year I should have between a 3.45 and a 3.55 cumulative GPA and a 3.5+ science GPA. I got a 507 on the MCAT with very even scores. I volunteer at 2 hospitals every week (as well as other non-medical volunteering), I'm an EMT, and I worked in an ER this summer. What are my chances of getting into Tufts, BU, Dartmouth or UVM? And where else should I apply? Thanks!

I majored in biochemistry and public health
I had some issues in my sophomore year with family and therefore I had done really badly. Didnt get my act together until my senior year.
I have about 2 years of research experience as a lab tech.
200+ hours shadowing both DO and MD
I am also thinking about going to grad school form my MPH and increasing my GPA that way. Thoughts?

So my science grades are as follow:
Calc I/II: C
Stats: B
Bio I: B
Bio II: A
Bio III: A
Chem I/II: A
OChem I/II: A
Biochem: A
Two Upper Div Bio: A
Physics I/II: A

The calculus grade is from 4 years ago when I didnt know I wanted to be a doctor so I did terrible . I had couple Cs and a lot of Bs in useless classes (no excuses though). But once I figured out my passion, I put in work and have been getting As in my science classes.
That one B from Bio I is a damn shame but it made me try...

I just wanted to see what you guys think of my chances of getting into an osteopathic medical school, and based off my scores, where I should be applying. I received my bachelors of Science in Nursing from The University of Alabama (ROLL TIDE) and have been working as a registered nurse in the open heart recovery unit and emergency department for two years. I'm an AA, LGTBQIA (the A specifically), pre-med who is currently sitting at a 3.58.
My MCAT is a 514, and I have a strong upward trend (last four semesters 3.4, 4.0, 4.0, 4.0) with my last three semesters having been heavily science and mathematics.
I have research (non-author) and triple majored at my undergrad (Poli Sci, Econ, Bio).
I also scored a 172 on my LSAT, and have research (no author) and volunteering...

Hi guys I am a 2015 new graduate from Brandeis currently working as a med receptionist/ assistant in an ophthalmologist office! (Love my Job!) Initially I was supposed to apply this cycle but messed up on the old MCAT (29) so I am planning on applying summer of 2016! I have retaken my MCAT (New version) and significantly improved. So now im wondering what my chances r w MD and if i should still apply to DO as safeties, and how many?

I know most people who read this will probably say "no chance" or "give up," but I would honestly appreciate constructive criticism.

Background:
I graduated from UNC with a BS in biology, Russian minor, and a really low uGPA (2.7). I don't even want to talk about my sGPA. First two years were failing just about every chemistry course, but the last two years were marked with improvement. The curve didn't work to my favor in most of my biology classes - but UNC is trying to add class...

Hello everyone,

So I am about halfway through my Jr Year and I would like to know what the community thought about my chances are. I have not taken an MCAT yet, just a heads up. I am an Illinois resident and would like to stay in the Chicago/midwest area.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am grateful for my luck in my stats, but I am a little worried that some mid tiers will reject just because I am overqualified, even though I would love to go to a school like UCI. With some bad luck, I might also be rejected from the top 20 schools, which will leave me with no acceptances. Though I am aiming for top 5/10/20, my goal is to get into Medical school period.
