Hello All,

First time ever posting here. I am a senior in my University can currently taking the first semester of senior year. So i will explain my situation here and kindly i need honest and expert/experienced opinions on that. sorry for a long post.

We (family) moved to USA about 3+ years ago. After high school, something happened for which i was unable to go to the university for 2 years. Just stayed home and meanwhile prepared for medical schools in my country. After that we moved to...

Retaking a C- RIGHT before matriculation

I'm applying to both MD and DO schools, but I have an unfortunate dilemma. My freshman year was an interesting year of sorts...with a death in the family as well as depression/eating disorder issues, and I got a D in the first Chem and I got a C- in Chem 2, retook the first chem with an A, but haven't retaken the second chem because I just can't/couldn't fit in into my schedule. Not all schools mention anything about C- vs. C grades in prereqs explicitly, but I'm assuming that they all don't...

I applied to schools last year and received no interview invitations. After looking back through my application I realized by GPA was not as good as I thought it had been. I forgot about the AMCAS no grade replacement policy. I'm pretty non-traditional. I worked full-time nearly the entire time I was completing my undergrad. Worked for ~10 years as a paramedic with 3 years as a flight paramedic. I often let work get in the way of school which affected my grades. I was also diagnosed with...

I am doing my masters back home (USA) in biomedical engineering. Did 3 years of undergrad in USA and because of health problems, I failed my last 3 semesters and got kicked out. Finished my degree in India because I went to stay with my grandparents while I got better. Back home now doing my masters. My undergrad degree is in Electronics engineering. I want to try for med school again thus I am back in the biomedical field. Can I apply to med schools...

Hey everyone,

I am going to be a reapplicant this upcoming cycle I applied to 11 schools the last cycle and ended up receiving 7 interviews, but I ended up withdrawing my application before I was accepted to any schools. I decided that I wanted to take a gap year before I attend medical school because I was feeling academically burned out. In my gap year, I am going to be volunteering and working in a research lab. My MCAT score is a 522 and I am a physics major with a 3.99 oGPA/3.96sGPA....

Hello SDNers,

(Not sure if this should belong to WAMC or Pre-Allo; feel free to move it as you see fit)

Yes it's another one of those threads... I'm finishing up my second to last semester of undergrad and trying to decide if I want to apply this upcoming cycle. I am leaning towards taking two gap years but my parents are strongly against that idea and have been really pushing me to apply. For reference, I live in my parents' house because I go to my state college that's very close to home...

Looking for some advice as too if/when I should plan for a gap year then apply again.

Applied to 18 schools for 2017-2018 cycle, in hindsight 3 of them were wayyy out of my reach, also two of them my prehealth advisor encouraged me to apply to turned out to have like 20% OOS so in total probably 5 of them were just money wasters lol...

Received 4 MD IIs, 2 MD waitlists (one was my state school), 1 MD post-II rejection (also state school), 1 pending decision (felt like that MMI went well...

Do I Have a Chance?

Hello,

I am an honors student at Arizona State University majoring in biological sciences. I currently have a 3.52 GPA. I know this isn't great and some of my friends have said that I probably don't have a chance of getting into medical school. I am considering adding a second major in Neuroscience. I would graduate a semester later but I was hoping the second degree/extra education would make me a stronger candidate. Would it? Or should I just graduate in Spring 2018 as planned? I am...

3.98 cGPA Sophomore

Currently a sophomore at a non-HYP Ivy, so forgive me if it's too early to start thinking about this. I currently have a 3.98 cGPA, 4.0 sGPA, but it might drop a little this semester if i get an A- in Bio. I've been heavily involved in extracurriculars since freshman year (research with 1 publication, clinical volunteering, shadowing, president of 2 clubs). I'm a pretty good test taker so I'm shooting for a 520+ on the MCAT. Also non-URM and not planning to take a gap year. I was wondering...

I recently graduated from college with a degree in Computer Science. I'm thinking about going to med school, but the issue is when I was 20 years old I got arrested for a misdemeanor. Long story short I never got convicted and its now expunged. Can I still get into med school?

What should I do? SMP or just apply?

So anxious it's literally raising my blood pressure these past few weeks i've been applying to the smps. I'm applying to 15 SMPs and 15 medical schools. I've gone back and forth with going ham on medical schools or just focus all of my energy on an SMP. Am I doing the right thing? should i even bother applying to Medical school if I don't even have shot? Feels bad man.
here are my stats in a nutshell.

Making my first foray into "WAMC", and invite all feedback.

I consider myself to be a non-traditional applicant. I started my undergrad at a service academy (West Point), but in the last semester was forced to withdraw due to some severe health problems which prevented me from completing that semester and ultimately graduating/commissioning (have since recovered). I'm finishing my undergrad at a local public university (UNL) and applying to MD/DO programs in the upcoming cycle.

So I'm a current third-year human biology major, business minor student at UC San Diego.
I have a cumulative GPA of 3.296 and a major GPA of 3.125 (yeah I know they're really bad...), but my GPA has been increasing since my second year.
I have 4 more quarters left here at UCSD before my expected graduation date, with mostly business classes left to take (only 3-4 major classes left).
I'm taking the MCAT the summer between my 3rd and 4th year.
I have some involvement such as previous...

Serious advice on my chances!

Hello everyone, hope you’re all doing well and willing to help me get some clarity or insight.

I’m currently on a semester off due to some issues with my job that required me to take the semester off. I’m planning on getting back to school and completing my undergrad degree in health sciences and getting ready to apply for med school. The whole process in between there as well. My main concern is that I didn’t always have this desire to pursue a career in the medical field. Not just any...

parsing out the negatives to improve next cycle

Greetings,

I am a 2017-2018 MD (25) and DO (1) applicant planning for reapplication if necessary. I am trying to parse out the causes of my application cycle woes so I can move forward in the strongest manner possible.

My Academic story:

Freshman year GPA (8 years ago): 1.9
2 semesters of low GPA lead to 2 semesters of academic probation which automatically resulted in academic suspension at the end of freshman year. I appealed and was immediately reinstated. I didn't miss time....

2.7 in Biochemistry classes? how much does this hurt my chances?

Taking Biochemistry these past two quarters, fall ended with a 2.7, this winter it looks like ~2.8 (material is interesting, but they do give us a ton of it, so it understandably feels like a 'med school test run') Now technically these correlate with a B- through AMCAS conversion. .

I decided to take these for the sake of my MCAT, which has greatly improved my overall score, a 507-510 is seemingly within reach.

With that consideration; lets say i'm applying with 3.5 cgpa, 3.3-3.2 sgpa,...
